A video which found its way to social media from Fox News shows the aftermath of an incident in Texas where a Border Patrol agent was shot at from Mexico while apprehending a migrant who had crossed over into America illegally.

The gunfired occurred on New Year's Day and adds to the total of shocking encounters as the US-Mexico border crisis continues to worsen.

Saturday's event happened near the city of Roma, Texas. The origin of the gunfire was across the Rio Grande River in Mexico. Both the FBI and Border Patrol are now investigating the case, a law enforcement source told Fox News.

Images the source provided to Fox News showed several bullet holes in the front of the Border Patrol agent's truck, left, and on its side. Nobody was injured and the agent did not return fire, the source told the cable news network.

Customs and Border Protection has been under immense pressure in recent months as a surge of illegal immigrants cross into the United States.
