Officials from Citigroup Inc. sent a communication to its staff, stating that employees who are unvaccinated face termination as of Jan. 14, Bloomberg first reported Friday, noting the last day of employment will be at the end of the month.

Citigroup will begin enforcing its "no-jab, no job" policy, according to a source familiar with the matter, Reuters reported. The company announced in October it would require US employees to be vaccinated as an employment condition.

The bank said back in the fall that it was complying with the Biden's administration's federal vaccine mandate for workers supporting government contracts as the government remains a "large and important" client of Citi.

More than 90 percent of Citigroup staff have so far complied with the mandate and that figure is rising quickly, Bloomberg reported, citing a Citigroup spokeswoman.

The company will assess exemptions on religious or medical grounds, or any other accommodation by state or local law, on a case-to-case basis, the bank said at the time. Citi's latest move comes despite legal rulings against such federal mandates.

Many business groups have spoken out against requirements launched by the Biden administration. The American Trucking Association warned of a futher loss of drivers if and when a vaccine mandate is implemented in the industry.
